Diocesan Collection Center of Győr’s Library and Exhibition Space

Currently closed

On the southern side of the Gutenberg Square, the old diocesan printing-house can be seen, which is now the Diocesan Collection Center of Győr’s Library and Exhibition Space. The library, which was founded in 1872, brings together the collections of the old seminary and the cathedral. It contains codices, ancient printed books and old Hungarian books. Outstanding treasures are the Corvina of Győr from the infamous library of King Matthias and the Zalka antiphonal, the largest codex in Hungary.

The upstairs exhibition space gives place to 2-3 high-quality temporary exhibitions a year.

Currently the temporary exhibition "Salve Regina – Virgin Mary in the Work of Redemption" is on display. The aim of the exhibition is to promote the Christian roots of Hungary and the sacred arts and traditions to a wide audience. The temporary exhibition focuses on the role of the Virgin Mary in the life of Jesus and the Church, concentrating on works of art that are related to the history of the Diocese of Győr but also of national significance.
